Professional Bio

Donna Turner, a Jackson, Tennessee native, has dedicated 42 years to law enforcement. She earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Animal Science from UT Martin, starting her career in 1983 as a dispatcher with the Martin Police Department. After moving to patrol, she graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1985, became P.O.S.T. certified, served on SWAT, worked undercover narcotics, and taught DUI detection statewide.

In 1990, Turner joined the Jackson Police Department, rising to detective in the Criminal Investigations Division, where she specialized in violent crimes and forensic training, including bloodstain pattern analysis, for which she was court-certified. In 1998, she was recruited as a Lieutenant to lead the Criminal Investigations Division at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and later graduated from the FBI National Academy.

Her career continued at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in 2002, then as Deputy Chief of the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. In 2017, she was appointed Director of Investigations and Compliance at the Tennessee Department of Correction. In April 2022, Covington Mayor Justin Hanson named her Chief of Police, where she continues her lifelong service to public safety.
