Professional Bio

Chief Jason Shaw began his law enforcement career with the Elizabethton Police Department in 1999 and has served as Chief of Police since November 2016. Over his career, he has advanced through multiple roles, gaining extensive experience in patrol, supervision, and leadership.

Chief Shaw holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from East Tennessee State University. He is a graduate of the UT-LEIC Southeast Leadership Academy, the FBI National Academy Session 278, and has earned the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) Level 4 Executive Leadership Certificate, the association’s highest professional recognition.

In addition to his law enforcement leadership, Shaw is active in his community. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Carter County Emergency Communications District, providing oversight to the county’s 911 system. He is also a lifetime member and former Fire Chief of the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department, reflecting his continued commitment to public safety and service beyond policing.
