Professional Bio

Chief Mark Gibson was appointed Chief of Police for the Cleveland Police Department on September 21, 2015. He began his law enforcement career with the department in 1997 and advanced through patrol, investigations, and administration, gaining broad operational and management experience. Today, he leads a staff of 107 sworn officers and 40 civilian employees with an annual budget exceeding $14 million.

Under his leadership, the department has seen significant advancements, including growth in personnel, the creation of specialized units such as Community Relations, Crime Suppression, and Traffic, and the reinstatement and outfitting of the K9 Unit. Technology and equipment have been modernized, and the agency has earned Gold Standard CALEA accreditation.

Chief Gibson holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 247. He has completed extensive specialized training, including the National Forensics Academy, and achieved the TACP Level 4 Executive Leadership Certificate.

He serves on several professional and community boards, including the Ethics and Professional Standards Committees of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police, the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force Board, the Bradley Prevention Coalition Board, the 24/7 Movement Foundation, and as Chairman of the Cleveland/Bradley County 911 Board.
