Professional Bio
In 2022, Chief Travis Dunavant was honored to be appointed Chief of Police in his hometown, leading the Scotts Hill Police Department. He began his law enforcement career in 2009 as a Reserve Deputy with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office before serving as a Correctional Officer and, in 2012, becoming a Deputy Sheriff after graduating from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Dunavant advanced to Sergeant and General Departmental Instructor, earning certifications as an Emergency Vehicle Operator and Firearms Instructor. He also served with the 24th Judicial Drug Task Force as a Narcotics Officer. In 2018, he joined the Cannon County Sheriff’s Office, where he became an Investigator and Instructor, later promoting to Lieutenant. In 2020, he graduated from Session IX of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation State Academy.
He went on to serve as a Task Force Officer with Homeland Security, focusing on narcotics enforcement, and furthered his training by completing the Medicolegal Death Investigator course through Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 2022.
