Course Description:

8-hour, Train the Trainer: Alzheimer’s and Demetia Awareness Course for First Responders. The U.S. population aged 65 and over has increased significantly, growing five times faster than the total population from 1920 to 2020, reaching 55.8 million, or 16.8% of the total population. Approximately 6.9 million people live with Alzheimer’s, and 3.5 million with other dementia-related diseases. As the elderly population grows, interactions with law enforcement become more frequent, often due to incidents involving confusion or disorientation, which can escalate due to inadequate police training on dementia. This course is designed to provide public safety professionals with the skills to identify, engage and mitigate impacts on persons with Dementia, caregivers, the public and the responding personnel.
